Deputies seeking answers in Riverdale murder

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — The mother of a murdered man has a message for the person who took her son's life: "Our kids are not supposed to die before us. We are supposed to go before them and this situation it didn't happen."

Someone shot and killed Lisa Hershman's 22-year-old son, Christopher Munger Sunday night outside building 37 at the Sutter Lake

Apartments on Webb Road near Riverdale.

Hershman told Channel 2’s Tom Jones she initially didn't want to talk on camera. "But if it's going to save another person because of my son's death, then so be it," Hershman said.

Hershman wants her son's killer off the streets before someone else gets hurt.

Clayton County detectives said Munger arrived at the apartments around 8 p.m. to meet a friend.

"While there, before he was able to go upstairs to meet with his friend, which was his intention, he was shot," Detective James Windon said.

Tenant Devoris King said he came outside to find Munger shot and barely breathing.

"The guy, he was lying next to my back tire," he said.

Before that, King said he heard what sounded like a gunfight.

"At least about close to 15 shots,” King said.

Detectives said they don't know who shot Munger or why.

"Unfortunately right now, that's what we're hoping the public can help us with," Windon said.

Detectives returned to the scene looking for witnesses and passing out flyers with Munger's picture and police contact information.

Munger's mother said her son loved everyone, and everyone loved him. Except the person who killed him.

"I want the person to tell me what was the reason. Was it worth it? Because you took my son," Hershman said.
