Detective with Monroe police dies of COVID-19 at age 49

MONROE, Ga. — A detective with the Monroe Police Department has died of COVID-19, the department announced Monday.

Tracey Conroy, 49, had served the city of Monroe for more than three years as an evidence tech and had been in law enforcement for more than 20 years.

“Tracey always had a positive attitude and a smile for others,” the department wrote. “We will miss her tremendously. Please continue to pray for her loved ones, friends, and her MPD family.”

It’s unclear how long Conroy had been battling the virus.

This is the second officer the department has lost since June. Capt. Mike Matthews, 54, died of kidney failure on June 7.

Georgia has lost more than 26 law enforcement officers to COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

The family has set up a GoFundMe for a memorial fund.
