Here's Donald Trump's inaugural lunch menu

Just after he is sworn in as the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump will dine on Maine lobster, Virginia beef and shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico. (See the full menu below)

Trump and Mike Pence, his vice president, will attend a long-standing, traditional inaugural luncheon hosted by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies on Friday after the inauguration festivities.

According to a menu released by the JCCIC on Tuesday, they will lunch on a surf-and-turf-inspired three-course meal of lobster and shrimp with a saffron sauce and peanut crumble, a second course of beef with dark chocolate, juniper jus and potato gratin, and a chocolate soufflé and cherry vanilla ice cream.

The tradition of an inaugural luncheon dates as far back as 1897, since the swearing-in of President William McKinley. The JCCIC first began hosting the luncheon in 1953, when lawmakers welcomed President Dwight Eisenhower. Since its inception, the event has grown into a full program that includes speeches, gift presentations and toasts to the new administration.

In the past, menus have featured flavors that are a nod to the home states of their new leaders -- though Trump's menu appears to be a sampling from coast to coast and not soley inspired by his home state of New York.

In 2013, President Barack Obama dined on steamed lobster, grilled bison and apple pie. The only Georgia-born president, Jimmy Carter, requested his inaugural luncheon in 1977 to be canceled. Instead, he and wife Rosalynn abandoned the armored limousine they were slated to ride in to the White House and walked hand-in-hand down Pennsylvania Avenue as delighted spectators cheered.

Trump and Pence will be joined by their families, congressional leadership, members of the Supreme Court and their future Cabinet secretaries.
