ATLANTA — Former Georgia Rep. Doug Collins has announced that he will not run for any political office in the next election cycle.
Collins served Georgia’s 9th Congressional District from 2013 to 2021. He ran for one of Georgia’s two Senate seats but came in third place behind Democratic challenger Raphael Warnock, who won, and Republican incumbent Kelly Loeffler.
Collins was rumored to challenge Georgia governor Brian Kemp or Warnock again in 2022.

“It has been a joy to serve both in the Georgia legislature and the United States Congress,” Collins wrote in a statement on Twitter. “During my time in Congress, I was able to accomplish a great deal for the folks that I served, including historic criminal justice reform with the passage of the First Step Act.”
Collins went on to say that this is “goodbye for now, but probably not forever.”
Collins said he plans to stay involved in politics and will work to try to help Republicans win back the House and senate as well as help more conservative Georgia candidates.
