Douglas County 17-year-old killed, another teen injured in crash on their way to school

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — A Douglas County community is mourning the loss of a 17-year-old who died in a crash on her way to school.

The crash happened on Dec. 7 off Highway 5 in Douglasville. King Way’s Christian School confirmed two of their seniors were involved in the crash.

Julie Howell, 17, died on impact. Another student, who has not been identified, was transported to a local hospital. The school asked the community to keep Howell’s family and the second student in their prayers.

Funeral arrangements for Howell have not been released.

According to her obituary, Howell was a cheerleader and member of the National Honor Society at King Way’s Christian. Her family says they will remember her beautiful laugh the most.

“She was beautiful, caring, compassionate, generous and loved by many,” her obituary read.

Howell planned on attending West Georgia Tech after graduation to study nursing. She is survived by her mother and father.
