Douglas County man convicted of beating, sexually assaulting woman

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — A Douglas County jury has convicted a man of beating and sexually assaulting a woman almost two years ago.

According to Douglas County District Attorney Dalia Racine’s office, 22-year-old Tyrek Thomas was convicted of aggravated sexual battery and several counts of aggravated assault.

The D.A.’s office says those charges stem from an incident in September 2020 when Thomas began arguing with a woman he was in a romantic relationship with that let to him punching her in the face and stomach before stomping on her while she was on the ground. They say he also threatened her with an assault rifle.

After that attack, prosecutors say Thomas convinced her to get into his car. While they were driving away, she passed out from her injuries. When she woke up, Thomas was sexually assaulting her.

When they got back to the home, Thomas sexually assaulted her again before holding her there for several days. She eventually convinced him to let her leave.

After he was arrested and released on bond, prosecutors learned of another sexual assault allegation and charged Thomas with an additional account of rape. He was arrested again.
