‘Totally out of character:’ Family searching for son who vanished after sending text after crash

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — A family is trying to find their son who vanished after he sent them a text saying he had been in an accident.

Thirty-four-year-old Chris McKoy has been missing since Jan. 7. Channel 2′s Tom Jones was with his parents as they passed out flyers asking people for help finding him.

“We’re looking to find my son,” Bernard McKoy said as he passed out flyers in the Lilburn area near Five Forks Trickum Road.

Jacqueline McKoy also approached shoppers in a plaza asking people to be on the lookout.

“If you do see him call 911 or the number here on the flyer,” she said, asking people to call 470-812-0316.

She also had a message in case her son was watching the news.

“Chris. We love you. We’re gonna find you, baby. We’re going to find you and bring you home,” Jacqueline McKoy said.

Chris McKoy hasn’t been seen since he sent his mother a text on Jan. 7.

“He had told me he had a panic attack and he crashed his car,’ his mother told Jones. He said someone needed to pick up his son from school.

His father says for his son to disappear is very unusual.

“This is totally out of character for him. Totally. He is dedicated to his son,” Bernard McKoy said.

The family says police told them cameras picked up his 2013 Ford Fiesta on Beaver Ruin Road in Gwinnett County the day he disappeared. The 34-year-old drives for Uber and Lyft and could have been working, the family said.

After the family posted about his disappearance on social media someone said they saw him in front of a Dollar Tree near Five Forks Trickum in Lilburn. Channel 2 Action News was with the McKoys when they went inside to look at the cameras. They came out and said it was not him in the video.

People in the area recognized how frustrating this is for the family.

“My goodness. She must be terrified wondering where he is,” shopper Michelle Munoz said.

The McKoys say they just want to find their son safe and sound.

“We are asking anyone, if you see him please call the number,” his mother said.

The McKoys posted a flyer on social media and more than a thousand people have shared it. Now, they’re asking others to share it as well.

The McKoys live in Douglas County and that’s where the missing person’s report was filed. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with any information to give them a call at 678-486-1247.
