Half a dozen businesses in downtown Clarkesville were damaged or destroyed by a fire late Wednesday night.
CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — Several of the buildings were more than 100 years old.
Officials said the fire began in a restaurant around 11 p.m. and quickly spread to the surrounding businesses.
Everyone escaped safely.
"Those buildings are filled with heart pine. Sweetbreads was heart pine, it was really no stopping it," Habersham County Commissioner Natalie Crawford said.
Fire officials are investigating.
