The South Carolina Department of Public Safety says a transport police officer pulled Alhendi over around 2:45 p.m. for a missing license plate on the tractor-trailer.
Officials said Alhendi told the officer that he had a bomb inside the truck. Law enforcement and the FBI shut down all of I-85 to investigate the threat.
It wasn’t until 7:40 p.m. that the threat was cleared and I-85 reopened.
Alhendi has been charged with breach of peace of a high and aggravated nature, conveying false information about a bomb threat and operating/permitting an unregistered vehicle.
South Carolina Department of Public Safety says Alhendi is from Illinois and the tractor-trailer was registered to a company in Illinois.
