COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Drivers said they were lucky they weren’t killed after police said someone was raining down rocks at cars driving on Interstate 75 in Cobb County.
Officers shutdown the express lanes near the end of rush hour Wednesday night after large chunks of rocks and concrete smashed windows and windshields.
Thankfully no one was hurt.

At first, police and Georgia Department of Transportation officials thought there may have been a problem with the Allgood Road bridge.
But then they determined there had to have been someone there tossing the rocks down, hidden out of sight.
Channel 2′s Steve Gehlbach spoke to some of the drivers who had their cars damaged by the rocks.
“It would have been at my head, in my face or in my chest,” said driver Venessa Lanier.
Lanier was going about 70 mph on the 75 express lanes when a rock hit the top of her new SUV.

“I didn’t know what happened. If I had been shot at or something dropped from the bridge,” Lanier said.
Terrified, and windshield shattered, she kept driving.
“I had glass in my lap and didn’t know if my windshield would blow out,” Lanier said.
Justin Roberts was another of the 10-to-20 drivers Marietta police say got hit with debris.
“All of a sudden I saw a rock about the size of a football,” Roberts said.
He said the impact to his work van sounded like an explosion.
“Hit here on the edge that kept it from coming through the windshield,” Roberts said. “If would have came through up here, probably would have hit me in the head and killed me.”
Police have at least one possible witness who saw someone on the bridge and one Facebook comment said he saw people under the bridge throwing rocks around that same time.
“We’re hoping that someone impacted by this may have stopped and saw someone and give us a description,” said Marietta police spokesperson Chuck McPhilamy. “We’re also looking into all the cameras in the area.”
Everyone’s just thankful no one was hurt.
“This isn’t a prank. This isn’t a joke. Something very serious and someone could have been injured or killed,” McPhilamy said.
Police are asking for the public’s help and say there could be more victims out there or more witnesses. They are urged to call Marietta police.
