CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Drivers will soon be able to go a little faster on a busy interstate in metro Atlanta.
Officials are raising the speed limit on Interstate 575, which runs through Cobb and Cherokee counties, after a Georgia Department of Transportation speed study.
The current speed limit is set at 65 mph, but the changes will increase it to 70 mph.

Channel 2's Steve Gehlbach hit the roads Monday morning and watched how fast drivers were going during the morning commute.
Most drivers Gehlbach talked with liked the idea of going 5 mph faster.
"We could move traffic just a little bit faster. I think that would be a great idea," one driver told Gehlbach.
Another driver who takes I-575 every morning had second thoughts and thinks it may make it more dangerous.
"In fact it may be a little too fast. People that go 75 up to 85 or 90. May not be a good thing," Jason Hamby said.
Others disagreed though, saying outside of rush hour, many drivers are already going over the current 65 mph.
GDOT did a speed study on a stretch of the interstate that begins in Cobb County up to the Riverstone Parkway exit in Canton.
Officials said it could take the next couple of months to go into effect as they work to replace the speed limit signs.
