HALL COUNTY, Ga. — One person drowned and two people were rescued after they rented a boat on Lake Lanier, officials said Sunday.

The drowning was reported in the area of Sunrise Cove Marina around 6 p.m.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources said a group was trying to swim in Lake Lanier and couldn’t make it back to their pontoon boat because of the wind.

Two people were rescued. The third swimmer went under the water and did not resurface.

Police identified the swimmer who drowned as Dorian Adonis Pinson, 20, of Greenville, S.C.

“The primary objective is to locate and recover Mr. Pinson to bring closure to his grieving family,” a DNR spokesperson said. “More information will be released as it becomes available.”

The drowning victim’s name has not been released.
