ATLANTA — Artis Trice has something to celebrate this weekend. He was one of just 66 students nationwide to win a $10,000 college scholarship from Taco Bell.
Taco Bell is awarding a total of $3 million in scholarships, and Trice won the second highest amount of $10,000 for the Foundation Live Más Scholarship.
The Ellenwood native was chosen out of 11,000 students who applied to the program to pursue his passion of solving food insecurity in Atlanta.
Taco Bell said this about the student:
“Artis is a third year geography student at Kennesaw State University, who is passionate about solving systemic food insecurity around the world. He believes food is the key to understanding history and culture, solving international conflicts, helping to cure diseases, and much more.
To address chronic hunger within communities of color specifically, Artis’s passion and mission is to educate them about the power of food. He has already done this by teaching lessons on nutrition, environmental studies, and healthy living to hundreds of students in Metro Atlanta and in Jamaica. He also created a high school curriculum on food justice during a fellowship in Seattle.
With his degree, Artis’s goal is to work at a non-profit and make sure everyone has access to fresh food across Atlanta.”
