GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — An Atlanta Falcons player was arrested early Tuesday morning on charges of driving under the influence.
Michael Turner, 30, was booked in the Gwinnett County Jail at 5 a.m. and released at 7 a.m. The jail booking sheet lists Turner's place of employment as the Atlanta Falcons.
Turner, a starting running back, was arrested in Suwanee on charges of speeding and driving under the influence, police said.
Gwinnett County police said a member of the DUI task force saw an Audi R8 on Interstate 85 traveling 97 mph in a 65 mph zone around 4 a.m.
Police said the officer pulled Turner over on I-85 near Steve Reynolds Boulevard. The officer said he could smell alcohol coming from Turner, and during the course of a DUI investigation, he determined probable cause to charge Turner with DUI.
The Atlanta Falcons defeated the Denver Broncos at home Monday night. Turner contributed to the win with a touchdown run.
“We are aware of the situation involving Michael and are in the process of gathering more information. Because this is a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time," the Falcons said in a statement released Tuesday morning.
