ATLANTA — Friends and family started to say their goodbyes to Bre’Asia Powell.
Powell was an innocent bystander killed when two groups of teens started shooting at each other at Benjamin E. Mays High School at 2:30 Sunday morning.
And now, a city council member said her death is the reason for a renewed push for a curfew.

Nicole Williams’ pain is visible after losing her daughter Bre’Asia. Her heart is broken.
“It hurts y’all, I’m hurt,” Williams told the crowd at a balloon release in honor of her daughter Wednesday night.
“Basketball, volleyball, cheerleading. Lord, she can do it all. I’m just thankful to have a child like that, my child my shining star. She lit up the whole room,” said Williams.
Williams is calling on parents to step up.
“Do me a favor. Go check on your child. See where the gun is at. Go get them; they got them,” she said.
Atlanta City Council Member Keisha Waites is also looking to make changes after Bre’Asia’s murder.
“I believe that a more restrictive curfew is a very small price and burden to save the life of a young person,” said Waites.
Waites introduced a curfew at the end of last year after two teens were shot and killed on the 17th Street bridge, but the legislation didn’t get support.
“I thought Zyion and Cameron would’ve been enough. So, I’m disgusted that we are here talking about this again,” said Waites.
On Wednesday night, Council member Antonio Lewis, who said Bre’Asia was a relative, said he’s on board.

“Right now is a time that is like no other in our city. I think it’s time that we fix it; the way to fix it is to institute a curfew again,” said Lewis.
For Bre’Asia’s family and friends, they remember her bright light.
“She was just best,” said friend Ayanah Morris.
They’re also calling for justice.
“Whoever did this, just turn yourself in,” said Williams.
Bre’Asia’s funeral will be Saturday, June 3, at noon at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church, and there is a public viewing on Friday, June 2, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Alfonso Dawson Mortuary Chapel.
