COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A Coweta County mother is hanging on to hope that her 7-year-old daughter will wake up after a head on collision.

The little girl broke her neck in the crash in Newnan.

Aubree has been on life support for the 10 days since the head on collision that caused brain damage.

Amber Hendrix met Channel 2's Matt Johnson outside of Atlanta Children's Hospital at Egleston where she has been by Aubree's side since the crash.

She said she was heading home in with Aubree in a backseat booster seat on Dec. 9 when the sun blinded her eyes while she made a turn.

“I never even saw them coming,” Hendrix said.

An oncoming minivan hit her at the intersection of Smokey Road and Old Corinth Road.

“You never would put your child in danger, or in a situation like that and to have it happen it's a crazy nightmare you just can’t come out of,” Hendrix said.

Hendrix said she doesn't have a timetable on when Aubree could wake up but doctors have said nothing about a recovery would be easy.

“The doctors are 99 percent sure she's going to be quadriplegic, that she's going to need care for the rest of her life,” Hendrix said.

Aubree's family is preparing to possibly spend the holidays at the hospital unless they get the only gift they could ask for.

“Maybe it will be a Christmas miracle and we will have her wake up,” Hendrix said.
