FAYETEVILLE, Ga. — A 20-year-old man will spend life in prison after a jury found him guilty in the death of a 18-year-old at a popular metro Atlanta park.

Police said Sean Allen shot and killed Daquan Gillett, 18, during a fight at Kenwood Park in Fayetteville on May 7. Police said Gillett and his twin brothers and friends were celebrating graduation with a water gun fight in the park when Allen and a friend confronted them.

The two groups got into a fight and Allen shot Gillett twice as he ran away. Gillett died from a gunshot wound to the head.

The shooting was captured on the park’s surveillance cameras.

A Fayette County jury convicted Allen on felony murder and aggravated assault charges Sunday.

“This case is a reflection of a growing trend in this Circuit and across the State where altercations turn deadly because of the unlawful use of a firearm,” District attorney Marie Broder said. “The results for the young people involved in this case were tragic.”
