FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. — A Fayette County woman was in a coma on the day she was supposed to get married. She had COVID-19.

She is still recovering, but was finally able to say, “I do.”

Andrionna Williams told Channel 2′s Carol Sbarge that she was in several of Piedmont Healthcare’s hospitals during her long journey the past nine months.

She got sick before the COVID-19 vaccine was available but didn’t hesitate to get it when she could, especially after everything she’s been through.

“I was in a coma for three and a half months,” Williams said.

It all started when she got COVID-19 in December 2020. On Christmas Eve, she had to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

“When you came to from the coma what was that like?” Sbarge asked Williams.

“Scary. I couldn’t move. I couldn’t talk. I had no movement,” Williams said.

That was in March. She was supposed to get married in January.

Right before she left Piedmont Fayette Hospital for rehab, the staff gave her a wedding.

One worker even brought in her wedding dress for Williams to wear.

“I remember being excited and very grateful that people actually loved enough to make me smile,” Williams said.

The months since haven’t been easy as she’s learned to move and talk again.

As soon as she could get the COVID-19 vaccine, she did.

Williams told Sbarge after seeing what she has gone through, friends who were dead set against getting vaccinated changed their minds.

“Take those couple of seconds. Take that poke and just know that you may have flu symptoms, cold symptom or maybe nothing but it will save your life,” Williams said.

She told Sbarge that the hardest part of all this was being away from her family and wondering if she was going to live.
