Witnesses saw the man, who police have identified as Marcus Farmer-Crane, punch the woman and take the baby inside the store. Witnesses said the woman ran after the man to try to get the baby back.

The mother ran outside into the parking lot, where witnesses said the man shoved her and the baby into a car.

“The female was seen to make several attempts to get out of the vehicle, but the male subject repeatedly pushed her back into the vehicle,” police said.

Farmer-Crane sped off with the back door of the car still open, police said. A witness was able to get the license plate number on the car.

Foster-Crane was later detained in another county for an unrelated violation. He was arrested and charged with kidnapping, battery, cruelty to children and reckless conduct.

It’s unclear if Foster-Crane is the father of the baby or if anyone was injured in the incident.
