FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. — A truck driver spotted an alligator just off a main road in Peachtree City last week.
The driver told Channel 2’s Berndt Petersen that he was driving down Highway 74 when he spotted the 6-foot gator near Flat Creek. %

“I stopped my truck and went back to look. It looked like a tire that was split in half and was lying out, until it moved,” said Bruce Traylor.
The gator was lounging on the bank of the creek. Traylor called police, and a few officers showed up just before the reptile took a swim and went under.
Wildlife officials said it’s rare, but every now and then a gator is spotted this far north. The Department of Natural Resources advised police to leave it alone because it wasn’t in a recreational area.
Police said it’s the first gator sighting in the area in at least five years, and they’re not sure how it got here.
