Fellow officers use moving radio calls to honor fallen Georgia deputy

WALKER COUNTY, Ga. — A fallen Georgia deputy’s brothers (and sisters!) in blue honored him with moving radio calls on their first shift back after his death.

Walker County Sheriff’s deputy Cpl. Chris Dye, who wore badge #37, died suddenly and unexpectedly  on Wednesday. Dye was 43 and a father of five.

His shift worked for the first time on Saturday night. In a series of radio calls posted by his wife, Kelly Jo Lykins Dye to Facebook, one after another, each officer begins their night with the same message to dispatch:

“37 is riding with me.”

“He is so loved by his shift and he is so loved by his guys (and girl),” his wife wrote on Facebook. “He loved what he did and was so incredibly good at his job.”

Dye was a U.S. Army veteran who retired from the military after serving 12 years, which included a tour in Iraq. he was hired at the sheriff’s office in 2015. His brother, Richard Dye, is a captain for the same sheriff’s office.
