Radar confirms tornado touches down in Coweta, south Fulton County

ATLANTA — The National Weather Service says a radar-confirmed tornado touched down near the Coweta and Fulton County line just outside Palmetto Wednesday afternoon.

Coweta County dispatch confirmed at least two homes have been damaged on George Wynn Road near Palmetto. There are also several trees down in the area.

The NWS says rotations Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns was tracking as the storms moved through Decatur may have also been two week tornado spinoffs.

The tornado warning for south Fulton County expired at 5:15 p.m.

A Flood Warning has been issued for several counties as well until 9:45 a.m. Thursday.

Those counties include: Gordon, Haralson, Polk, Carroll, Chattooga, Whitfield, Paulding, Floyd and Bartow.

The biggest threats associated with the flood warning is overflowing of streams and small creeks because 2 inches of rain has already fallen in those areas.
 
An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain are possible in the counties covered in the warning by 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Leaf-clogged drains could also cause flooding in some areas.

There is also a wind advisory in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday with gusts up to 35 mph.
