Former Braves coach Bobby Dews dead at 76

ATLANTA — Channel 2's Zach Klein has learned that former Atlanta Braves baseball coach Bobby Dews has died.

Dews passed away on Saturday evening, according to Klein.

He was a former Braves coach and minor-league manager and administrator.

Dews grew up in Edison, where he played high school baseball and basketball and went on to star in both sports at Georgia Tech.

Dews spent 53 years in professional baseball, including the past 37 years with the Braves, before retiring in 2012.

He also was a professional writer, who has published novels such as “Largo,” and “Unpublished Poets,” as well as a collection of short stories, “Legends, Demons and Dreams.”
