Former Delta employees charged in gun smuggling case

Two former Delta Airlines employees are accused of smuggling guns.

ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News obtained video of what investigators say is a former Delta Airlines employee carrying guns through Hartsfield-Jackson headed for New York.

Brooklyn New York District Attorney Ken Thompson says Eugene Harvey and others can expect to spend a lot of time in court.

A massive indictment detailed how guns were smuggled in the passenger compartment of 20 Delta Airlines flights between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and New York.

Thompson says three of the defendants list metro Atlanta addresses.

Harvey, a former Delta ramp agent at the time, allegedly used his position to get several guns past Atlanta airport security.

Mark Henry, a former Delta employee, is also accused of carrying guns on 20 Delta flights.

Graysling Smith is accused of supplying Harvey and Henry with over 150 guns to smuggle.

Thompson says all three have been arraigned and plead not-guilty. Harvey and Henry both are facing an aggravated enterprise corruption charge that carries a possible life sentence.

"This is the very first time that the statute has been used in the entire state of New York," Thompson said.

Thompson confirmed a statement that suggests 153 firearms purchased in Georgia were headed for Brooklyn.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport released the following statement:

"At the world's busiest airport, we are constantly working to maintain the safest possible environment for our guests and employees. With close coordination with our airline partners, TSA, the Atlanta Police Department and other key agencies, we successfully implemented comprehensive employee screening last year. We will continue to enhance security measures as needed and will cooperate fully with all law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of everyone at Hartsfield-Jackson."
