Nationwide ‘Custodian of the Year’ could come from Forsyth County elementary school

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia custodian is one of 10 finalists who could be named the best in the country.

Richard Toomey, the head custodian at Kelly Mill Elementary School in Forsyth County, is one of the finalists for the 2023 Cintas Custodian of the Year.

Toomey is the only Georgia custodian among the top 10.

“Whether it’s climbing on the roof to get balls for kids at recess, planting crops, carrying heavy items for teachers or digging through the trash for a mouth retainer, he does it all with a smile on his face. Richard also goes out of his way to provide in-depth classroom cleaning for students with compromised immune systems to help ensure their health and safety,” his nomination reads.

The top custodian will win $10,000 and an all expenses paid trip to a convention for the Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association in Las Vegas.
