FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A metro Atlanta probation officer has found herself behind bars after she was accused of stealing money.

On Nov. 15, the victim said she stopped by a bank to get cash out while on the way to probation. The victim stated she reported to Probation Ofc. Cynthia Lawrence at the Cumming Probation Office.
According to Forsyth County officials, the victim was being arrested for a warrant.
Deputies said during that time, the victim pulled her list of phone numbers and cash out of her pockets and put them on a table. The victim told officials that she was given an evidence bag, and placed $270 in cash, a phone and a vape inside of it.

The FCSO said that as the transport officer was escorting the victim out of the probation office, the woman asked Lawrence to seal the bag.
The woman told deputies that when she arrived at the jail to be processed the money was not in the bag.

Deputies later arrested Lawrence.
She was booked into the Forsyth County Jail and charged with theft by taking.
The FCSO sent the following statement to Channel 2 Action News regarding the incident:
”We are very disappointed in the actions of this probation officer. It is the job of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office to investigate and enforce laws no matter who is involved and what position they may hold.”
