Teen accused of posting bomb threat targeting Forsyth County synagogue, deputies say

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A teenager has been charged after officials say he posted a bomb threat on social media against a synagogue.

On March 21 at 4:45 p.m., deputies received reports of a bomb threat made at 8:30 a.m. on Twitter that said a pipe bomb had been placed at a local Jewish Synagogue, according to court documents obtained by Channel 2 Action News,

Authorities determined that the synagogue the post was referencing was the Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue on Brannon Road because it was the only Jewish synagogue in the county.

When deputies arrived with the Explosive K9 Detection unit, they met with the Rabbi to determine if there was a threat.

Officials said Federal Bureau of Investigation Joint Task Force officers also went to the home of 18-year-old Cooper Wells Hansen, who was identified as the suspect.

Deputies confirmed that no explosives were found on the property.

“We believe that this threat was made with a bias against Judaism,” deputies wrote in the report.

Hansen was charged with terroristic threats and acts.

The investigation remains ongoing.
