Fulton County Schools report 150 positive COVID-19 tests among staff, students since July

The Fulton County School district confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that 150 staff members and students have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last month.

Channel 2′s Mike Petchenik filed an open records request and received the data from the district Friday.

The district said the latest data is from July 1 until Aug. 12. Of the 150 positive COVID-19 cases, 129 were staff members and 21 were students. The records provided did not include a break down by school.

The school district has over 94,000 students enrolled and 14,000 part-time and full-time employees, including 7,500 teachers.

Fulton County Schools will start the school year virtually on Monday with plans to phase face-to-face learning back in after Labor Day. The district isn’t planning to start full face-to-face learning until there are fewer than 100 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people in Fulton County.

The district announced late Thursday that all sport activities have been delayed until Sept. 14.

Other school districts have released data regarding the number of COVID-19 cases.

Cobb County Schools last week says the Georgia Department of Health has reported 100 suspected cases of COVID-19 involving students or staff in the last month.

Barrow County Schools meanwhile said it had 90 employees quarantined or test positive for COVID-19.

The Cherokee County School District is reporting large numbers of staff and students that have been in quarantine. The district says 1,195 people have been quarantined as of the week of Aug. 10-16.
