Neighbors who have witnessed crashes and fear for their own safety told Channel 2 Action News they are looking forward to the big changes.
Reginald Rowell has lived in the South Fulton neighborhood for about 10 years.
Rowell likes to walk and clean up his neighborhood at the same time.
“Well typically each and every day I’ll come down the street, Stonewall Tell, and just pick up trash. It’s kind of like for my heart as well – for my health – but at the same time just kind of do a little humanitarian work just picking up trash as I go.” He said.
Rowell said he wears a safety vest because he knows several crashes happen at the corner of Stonewall Tell and Campbellton Roads.

City officials told Channel 2 Action News there have been a total of 30 crashes in the area.
Rowell remembers witnessing one crash that looked like it was going to be fatal.
“The SUV flipped over right at the intersection – it was upside down literally,” Rowell said. “I just watched what was happening and said, ‘Is everybody going to be ok?’ Next thing you know, I guess the window had broken and the kids just started crawling out one by one on their knees.”
With more and more people using these roads neighbors are thankful to city leaders for recognizing there was a problem and taking action.
Once construction starts the road will shift in a diagonal direction and cars will have to stop at a stop sign which will eventually be replaced with traffic lights and turning lanes.
