‘Incident’ between 3 Fulton County inmates leaves 1 dead, deputies say

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — An inmate in the Fulton County Jail is dead after being involved in “an incident” with several others, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Deputies say that three inmates became involved in an incident inside the Fulton County Jail on Thursday. When it was over, one of those three inmates was dead.

Channel 2′s Brian Mims was at the jail, where officials have not released details on what type of incident occurred or what led up to it.

Investigators have not released the identity of the inmate who died as they notify the next of kin.

Atlanta police are investigating the homicide.

Officials add that their investigation into the incident is still in its preliminary stages.

A source told Channel 2 Action News that the inmate killed was in jail on charges of aggravated assault, robbery and gun charges. The source said the alleged killer was in jail for a murder indictment.

Investigators are looking at possible gang involvement.

Nearly three weeks ago, on Sept. 5, a deputy was stabbed several times at the jail by inmate Richard Parham. The deputy survived. Investigators said Parham had a knife in the inmate intake process area and charged at the deputy.
