Mother arrested in connection to East Point apartment fire that killed her child, officials say

EAST POINT, Ga. — A mother has been arrested in connection to the death of her child, the injury of her other child, and setting an apartment fire in East Point.

East Point police said Nicole Ashley Jackson, 27, set her apartment on fire at Brookfield Apartments on 3072 Washington Road just after 3 p.m. Monday.

When firefighters arrived at the complex, they noticed heavy smoke coming from a building and immediately started working to put the fire out.

After the fire was out, firefighters were starting their search and rescue efforts, when the body of a little girl was found.

Police have not released the age of the little girl.

Another child was transported to a hospital for fire-related injuries.

Seven families have been displaced due to the fire and Red Cross has been called to assist these families.
