No distress calls in Alpharetta plane crash that killed two, authorities say

ALPHARETTA — There were no distress calls during the Halloween plane crash that killed two people, the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety said.

Alpharetta police confirmed that there are no survivors after the small plane crashed.

Officials said on Monday at 1:15 p.m., a Beech BE58 crashed into wooded terrain near Big Creek and Rock Mill Park in Alpharetta. The flight plan indicated two people were on board, flying from Jekyll Island to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport.

The plane was cleared for an approach into DeKalb-Peachtree Airport, descended and went off the radar. Authorities said a review of air traffic control recordings shows the pilot made no distress calls.

The probable cause of the crash and any contributing factors will be in the final report, which can take 12-24 months to be completed, officials said.

The NTSB said it would release a preliminary report in two to three weeks containing all the factual data collected up to that point.

Investigators are also reviewing radar and weather conditions at the time of the accident. The NTSB encourages anyone who may have witnessed the crash to email witness@NTSB.gov.
