Third graders at a Fulton County school are heading home for virtual learning

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — An increase in the number of COVID-19 cases at one Fulton County school is leading to one grade level heading back to virtual learning.

Officials with Fulton County Schools say due to a high volume of positive cases and direct contacts among third graders at Summit Hill Elementary School, those students will be participating in remote learning.

The return to virtual learning is just a temporary one. Students will begin doing their schoolwork remotely Tuesday and will return to the classroom on Tuesday, September 14.

During the week of August 27 through September 2, Fulton County Schools reported a total of 5 positive cases among students and staff and 68 close contacts across the entire school.

If students need to quarantine, the district will reach out to them directly.

While the district anticipates students will be able to return to school in a week, that timeline could change.

Latest district data shows 675 positive cases and 25,465 close contacts across the entire district.
