FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A high school in Fulton County went into lockdown on Thursday after a BB gun was found on campus.

Fulton County Schools officials say Banneker High School went into a hard lockdown after a weapon was found.

“A ‘hard lockdown’ is when there is a threat or hazard inside of the school building or in situations when school leaders deem appropriate,” Principal Vincent Golden wrote in a letter to parents.

They say that the gun has since been secured and the school is no longer under lockdown.

“Although we have a detailed safety plan that we practice regularly, a hard lockdown can be scary and can rightfully cause some anxiety for our students,” Golden wrote. “You entrust your child to our care each day, and we will continue to provide the safest learning environment possible.”
