ATLANTA — The Georgia Court of Appeals ruled on Thursday that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her office have been disqualified from the election interference case involving President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump and his co-defendants have tried to get Willis thrown off the case for months over her romantic relationship with former special prosecutor Nathan Wade.

Earlier this year, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ruled that either Willis or Wade would have to step aside. Wade resigned, but Trump and his attorneys filed an appeal to remove Willis as well.

On Thursday, a three-judge panel concluded that the lower court made a mistake by allowing Willis to stay on the case.

”After carefully considering the trial court’s findings in its order, we conclude that it erred by failing to disqualify DA Willis and her office,” the court ruled.

The indictment against Trump still stands. The ruling comes one day after Willis filed new court documents claiming that Trump doesn’t have presidential immunity in the case.

Steve Sadow, who is the lead attorney for Trump’s case in Georgia, released the following statement:

“The Georgia Court Of Appeals in a well-reasoned and just decision has held that DA Fani Willis’ misconduct in the case against President Trump requires the disqualification of Willis and her office. The Court highlighted that Willis’ misconduct created an “odor of mendacity” and an appearance of impropriety that could only be cured by the disqualification of her and her entire office. As the Court rightfully noted, only the remedy of disqualification will suffice to restore public confidence. This decision puts an end to a politically motivated persecution of the next President of the United States.”

Channel 2′s Mark Winne obtained a notice filed by Willis stating that she will file an appeal with the Georgia Supreme Court.
