HANCOCK COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is releasing new details on how a Georgia woman died after falling out of a moving patrol car.

Brianna Marie Grier, 28, was being arrested by Hancock County sheriff’s deputies earlier this month. As they were driving to the sheriff’s office, Grier fell out of the patrol car and was severely injured.

About a week later, Grier died from her injuries.

The GBI is now reporting that the door Grier fell out of was never closed.

Investigators say they determined that two deputies arrested Grier and handcuffed her in front of her body. Grier refused to get into the patrol car and was instead lying on the ground saying she was going to hurt herself.

Both deputies and Grier were at the rear driver’s side door. To get Grier into the patrol car, one of the deputies opened the rear passenger’s side door and then returned to the driver’s side, according to the GBI.

The deputies were able to get Grier into the patrol car and closed the door. They did not put a seatbelt on her, officials said.

According to investigators, the deputy thought he closed the rear passenger’s side door.
