ATLANTA — Senator Raphael Warnock has been declared the winner in Georgia’s U.S. Senate runoff over Herschel Walker.

The senator will now serve his first full term after winning a 2020 special election for the unexpired term after Senator Johnny Isakson’s retirement.

Moments after the senator was declared the winner, Georgia Democrats began celebrating his win.

Senator Warnock himself tweeted his thanks to the people of Georgia.

Fellow Senator Jon Ossoff congratulated his “dear friend.” The two were first elected to the Senate during the same election cycle in 2020.

“It is an honor to work every day for the people of Georgia with Reverend Raphael Warnock, and I congratulate my dear friend on his victory tonight. Reverend Warnock has won universal respect in the Senate for his moral clarity and dedication to public service, and I look forward to continue working side-by-side with Senator Reverend Warnock for our great state.”

Though not a Georgia Democrat, President Joe Biden also showed his support for Warnock and his defeat over “Ultra MAGAism.”

Vice President Kamala Harris said Georgians wanted “a Senator who would fight for them.”

Stacey Abrams, who lost her bid for Georgia’s governor seat in the general election, congratulated her “friend.”

Representative Lucy McBath called the win a “big win” for Georgia. McBath won reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives in the November general election, but in a different district than she had been serving.

Bee Nguyen, who lost her bid to be Georgia’s next Secretary of State to incumbent Brad Raffensperger in the general election, said she was looking forward to Warnock’s next six years in office.
