EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities in Georgia are looking for an inmate who escaped from the Effingham County Jail Monday night.
Kevin Wilson, 32, escaped just after 8 p.m. Monday, Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie told WJCL, Channel 2′s ABC affiliate in Savannah.
Wilson was being held at the jail for charges related to a 2020 traffic stop. He was also indicted in August by a grand jury for a May 2020 homicide in Savannah.

The sheriff’s office believes that recent storms caused the locking mechanisms in several jail cells and other secure areas. WJCL obtained security video that shows Wilson running away from the jail.
The sheriff said the escape was also due to human error.
“We didn’t check it like we should have,” McDuffie said of the cell.

WJCL reports that K-9 units picked up Wilson’s scent but lost it near the jail. Deputies believe that someone may have picked him up in the area.
The sheriff’s office said Wilson is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
He is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, 189 pounds with black hair and brown eyes, with a medium build.
If you see Wilson, do not approach him. Call 911 or remain anonymous by calling Crimestoppers at 912-234-2020.
