CRISP COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia deputy has died after being by a suspect during a traffic stop, according to the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office.
Just after 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a Crisp County deputy performed a traffic stop after a truck was flagged as stolen.
As the deputy got out in the middle of the roadway on Highway 280 in Cordele, the suspect shot the deputy, according to officials.

The suspect then left the scene in the deputy’s patrol car and led law enforcement on a chase through multiple Georgia counties.
The deputy has been identified as 26-year-old Tyee Browne, of Macon County.
He had been on the job for less than one year. Channel 2 Action News confirmed that Browne graduated from the police academy in September 2022.
“Deputy, son, grandson, loved one, and friend while these are all titles that describe Deputy Tyee Browne,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement on Facebook. “Hero is the title we bestow upon him today. At 26 years old, this young man faced evil while protecting our community.”

Eventually, the suspect was arrested by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office on Interstate 475.
He’s been identified as Croshawn Cross, 25, of Unadilla.
Cross has been charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault (two counts), theft by receiving stolen property, carjacking, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (3 counts), possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime (3 counts) and theft by taking (2 counts).
