BIBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia sheriff’s office is mourning the loss of a beloved deputy. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says Sgt. Scott Johnson recently died after a battle with cancer.
Johnson worked as a deputy for almost 20 years and also served as a staff sergeant with the Georgia National Guard.
“Please keep his loved ones and the Sheriff’s Office in your thoughts during this difficult time. We are thankful for his lifetime of dedicated service to our country and community. Sgt. Johnson will be greatly missed.”

Johnson served on the office’s H.E.A.T. unit targeting aggressive and impaired drivers, SWAT team, strike team and gang unit in the criminal investigations division.
The sheriff’s office did not list any memorial service information in the announcement about Johnson’s death.

Channel 2′s ABC affiliate WGXA reported last year on an act of kindness that Johnson performed for a local woman. The sergeant paid for repairs that her car needed and also her tag renewal.
“I’m so very thankful to Sgt. Johnson for fixing my car. I had no transportation. It was so very hard for me, but I knew that God would bless me somehow, and he did when he sent me Sgt. Johnson,” Victoria Dudley said.
“If more people in the world were like that, what a wonderful world it would be. I will never forget what Sgt. Johnson did for me.”
