Man shot, killed at apartment complex, prompting lockdown at nearby college

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — An all clear has been given after Georgia Gwinnett College was put on lockdown Thursday morning. Police say someone was shot and killed at an apartment complex near campus.

Police said a man was shot and killed at the Sugar Mill apartments near campus around 10 a.m. Police found the victim at the bottom of a stairwell with at least one gunshot wound.

Investigators are trying to determine why the man was at the apartment complex. They are asking any witnesses to come forward.

Police were searching for a black male in a white T-shirt and dirty sweatpants who is “possibly armed and dangerous.”

Georgia Gwinnett officials initially said the lockdown was due to a “violent threat” on campus and told everyone to lock and barricade their doors.
