ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Health reports that at least six more children have died of COVID-19 across the state since Christmas of 2021.
A total of 34 children ages 17 and younger have died of the virus since the start of the pandemic.

The new reported deaths are:
An infant boy in Floyd County
A 1-year-old girl in Atkinson County with a chronic illness
A 1-year-old girl in Monroe County
A 4-year-old girl in Clarke County
A 12-year-old girl in Clayton County with a chronic illness
A 17-year-old girl in Meriwether County with no chronic illness

The Georgia Department of Health does not identify victims of COVID-19.
Vaccines have been approved for children ages five and older. Zero children who have been vaccinated in Georgia have died of the virus.

Channel 2′s Chris Jose talked to Dr. Morgan, who said that 25% of pediatric deaths have happened in just the last eight weeks.
“This surge was staggering in its deadly impact to our community,” Morgan said. “So omicron was actually quite severe and quite deadly.”
