Georgia man loses both parents to COVID-19 a month apart

COLUMBUS, Ga. — A Georgia man survived COVID-19, but sadly his parents couldn’t.

Demetrius McBride spoke to WTVM-TV in Columbus about his family’s loss. He said they all contracted the deadly virus over the summer.

McBride’s 71-year-old mother, Dr. Betty Jean McBride, a beloved educator, died August 15. Exactly one month later, Demetrius McBride’s 67-year-old father, also died from COVID-19 complications Sept. 15.

“They’re reunited. It was time, I feel. My mother may have been calling home or my father was ready to go see his bride again,” McBride told WTVM-TV.

McBride posted a tribute to his father on his public Facebook page.

“At an early age you taught me the value of integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness. You taught me that a workman always carries his tools, no matter what the job maybe. But most importantly you taught me to love. To Love God, love my family, and to love my community,” McBride wrote.
