Albany, GA — Ten shelter dogs and three cats got a “Christmas Miracle” after being brought from an overcrowded Albany animal shelter to Atlanta.
The Lifeline Animal Project, which manages both Dekalb and Fulton County’s shelters, picked up the dogs and cats Wednesday morning from the Albany Humane Society.

The Humane Society had been facing an overcrowded shelter situation and the dogs, who have been at the shelter since May, had heartworm issues and were facing euthanasia on Christmas Eve.
Instead, the pups will get heartworm treatment at LifeLine’s Community Animal Center and the healthy cats will be checked out as well. LifeLine says they all will eventually be available for adoption.

The animal group says they’ve saved more than 1,000 at-risk animals from rural shelters since March of 2020.
They say anyone who might be interested in fostering the Albany dogs while they undergo treatment to please email them at foster@lifelineanimal.org.
