Georgia sisters, 18 and 14, killed in crash with tractor-trailer

TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia community is mourning the loss of two teenage sisters who died in a tractor-trailer crash on Tuesday.

Desirae Lee Cannon, 18, and Haley Cannon, 14, were riding in a Saturn car Tuesday afternoon in Toombs County when the vehicle turned into the path of a tractor-trailer. Both girls were pronounced dead at the scene, according to WJCL.

Toombs County is about two hours southeast of Macon.

Desirae was a senior at Toombs County High School, and was set to graduate in May. Haley was an eighth-grader at Toombs County Middle School.

“Please keep their family and friends as well as our schools and our community in your thoughts and prayers during this trying time,” the post read. “Our hearts are deeply saddened as we mourn the tragic loss.”

Desirae was the vice president of the Family, Career & Community Leaders of America for the state of Georgia. Hayley loved reading and drawing.

A GoFundMe set up to pay for the girls’ funeral expenses has raised nearly $8,000.

The sisters will laid to rest at a shared funeral service on Friday in Vidalia.
