NEW ORLEANS, La. — No. 7 seed Notre Dame barely has the lead over No. 2 seed Georgia as the Sugar Bowl heads to halftime in New Orleans.

The Bulldogs’ one field goal has them trailing the Fighting Irish, who put up a last-minute field goal and touchdown, making the score 13-3 heading into the second half.

The first quarter at the Superdome was scoreless in the first quarter, and with less than two minutes left in the second quarter, both teams had put up just one field goal a piece, leaving the teams tied. But at the last minute, the Fighting Irish were able to put up 10 more points, pulling ahead of the Dawgs.

On the line for both teams is a spot in the Orange Bowl and the semifinals of the College Football Playoff.

The winner will face Penn State who beat Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl 31-14 on Wednesday.

The Sugar Bowl was meant to be played on New Year’s Day, but what is being described as a terror attack that killed 15 people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans delayed the game by a day.

Channel 2 Sports Director Zach Klein is in New Orleans for the game and will have all the latest details on Channel 2 Action News.
