GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The daughter of a Gwinnett County firefighter is in the hospital after a skateboarding accident on the Fourth of July.

Caroline Wirl fell off her skateboard and hit her head on the street, causing a traumatic brain injury, according to her GoFundMe page.

The outpouring of support for Wirl has been incredible, both online and among firefighters across the country.

“God's going to take care of her,” neighbor Doris Moseley said.

In her Gwinnett County neighborhood, yellow signs of hope and prayers are tied to mailboxes and trees.

“She gave me some ribbon and I tied one around my tree and one on my mailbox and I just want the family, even though I don't know the family, to know that I have been praying for them.” Moseley said.

Neighbors are expressing what firefighters across the internet have been expressing, even though they don't know Wirl.

The tributes that have been shared online are now too many to count. Several fire departments added Caroline's name to their roster, along with her dad, Gary Wirl's firefighter badge number.

Members of the family, who did not want to speak on camera, did tell Channel 2's Lori Wilson they have been overwhelmed by the support they've received.

In addition to the firefighter tributes, a Facebook page called Praying for Caroline has more than 3,000 likes. A GoFundMe page for her medical expenses has raised more than $20,000.

“It's not about your political views, your religious views …. It's about a family that's suffering that needs other people," Moseley said.
