ATLANTA — Governor Brian Kemp and his wife have tested negative for COVID-19 after the governor came into contact with someone who tested positive for the virus, officials said Friday afternoon.
Kemp and the First Lady are quarantining. Officials said Kemp was directly exposed to the virus within the last 48 hours but is not experiencing any symptoms. The First Lady was not known to be exposed.
“The Governor spoke with Dr. Toomey this afternoon and will continue to follow her expert guidance,” officials said. “We will provide further updates at the appropriate time.”
Kemp’s team has not revealed the identity of the person that was infected, but the governor was at a campaign rally this week with Rep. Drew Ferguson.
Ferguson tweeted that tested positive for COVID-19 after feeling ill Thursday night.
Ferguson said he will be self-quarantining and working from home.
Earlier Friday, Kemp extended the state’s Public Health Emergency order until Dec. 9.
