Gwinnett County sheriff sergeant dies from COVID-19 just 1 month after retiring

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s office is mourning the death of a longtime sergeant who had just recently retired.

Sergeant Stanley Wilson died Feb. 15 due to complications from COVID-19. The 70-year-old had just retired in January.

Wilson began at the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office in 1996.

“We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues as we all mourn his passing,” the sheriff’s office said in a release. “We extend our utmost gratitude to Stanley for his 25 years of outstanding service, and his commitment to the community.”

The Facebook post announcing Wilson’s death on the sheriff’s office page received dozens of people mourning the loss.

“Wonderful man/mentor and friend taken way too soon. My heart is broken! We pray for his family,” one person wrote.
