DULUTH, Ga. — Duluth police are cracking down on street racing after two men were arrested after going more than 103 miles per hour.

Channel 2 Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson learned from police that the two men racing one another didn’t even know each other.

Brandon Yanez, 19, and John Rembert, 24, were arrested and charged after racing one another on Pleasant Hill Road last week.

Dash camera video shared with Channel 2 Action News shows an officer dart out after them, but only one driver, Yanez, stopped.

Rembert’s custom license plate on a white BMW made him pretty easy for officers to find. He was arrested on Monday.

“When you were racing that other car, we got you camera, got your license plate on camera,” officers can be heard saying to Rembert while arresting him.

Police told Johnson they have no tolerance for racing and speeding in the city and continue cracking down on street racing and stunt driving.

They also use their vast camera system across the city to make arrests after suspects try to get away.

Both the reckless driving and racing charges are misdemeanors, so Yanez and Rembert were able to bond out.
